The government has allocated money for the purchase of continuous glucose monitoring systems for children

The government has allocated RUB 5.1 billion for the purchase of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems for children. The documents necessary for the implementation of new support measures were signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the government reported. The corresponding Decree No. 1958 of November 22, 2023 and Decree No. 3285-r of November 22, 2023 were published on the legal information portal.

This will make it possible to provide LMWH systems to all children with type I diabetes mellitus aged 2 to 17 years inclusive who need them. Prescriptions for free receipt of such systems will be written by attending endocrinologists. Previously, systems were provided to children at the expense of regional budgets, which affected their accessibility, the government emphasized.

All Russian regions will receive federal funds on co-financing terms. In 2023, their volume will be just over 1 billion rubles, in 2024 - 4.1 billion rubles.

The government will allocate another 33 billion rubles to the Circle of Good Foundation

By the end of 2023, the Russian government will allocate a grant of 33 billion rubles from its reserve fund for the Circle of Good Foundation. The funds are intended for the purchase of drugs and technical means of rehabilitation (TSR) for the foundation’s wards, as well as to expand the list of severe pathologies, the treatment of which is financed by the foundation.

In November 2023, the government made changes to the Rules for providing grants to the Circle of Good Foundation. Adjustments from January 1, 2024 will concern the results and targets for the allocation of subsidies from the federal budget for the treatment of patients, as well as for providing them with medicines, medical devices and medical devices.

The basis for the grant will be the number of cases of medical care provided to children with orphan diseases, as well as the number of purchased packages of medicines and medical products, including those not registered in the Russian Federation, and TSR.

Tuberculosis in Mozambican prisons will be detected using artificial intelligence

Mozambique has joined countries that, with the support of the NGO Stop TB and the UN, have introduced artificial intelligence (AI) to detect tuberculosis as part of prisoner screening, AFP reports. According to the World Health Organization, this infection is at least 10 times more common in prisons around the world than in the general population.

Software with AI algorithms integrated with X-ray equipment allows you to detect tuberculosis in a matter of minutes and does not require the participation of a doctor. The first phase of the pilot involves inmates from three Mozambican capital prisons.
