Changes have been made to a number of regulatory legal acts regarding the procurement of certain types of medical devices

On September 22, 2023, the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated September 16, 2023 No. 1512 (hereinafter referred to as the resolution) was posted on the Official Internet Portal of Legal Information.

The Decree amended the following acts of the Government of the Russian Federation regarding the positions of certain types of medical devices for procurement purposes:

  • Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated 02/05/2015 No. 102 “On restrictions and conditions for the admission of certain types of medical devices originating from foreign countries for the purpose of procurement to meet state and municipal needs”;
  • Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated April 30, 2020 No. 616 “On establishing a ban on the admission of industrial goods originating from foreign countries for the purposes of procurement for state and municipal needs, as well as industrial goods originating from foreign countries, works (services), performed (provided) by foreign entities for the purpose of procurement for the needs of national defense and state security”;
  • Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated December 3, 2020 No. 2014 “On the minimum mandatory share of purchases of Russian goods and its achievement by the customer.”

The Decree comes into force on December 1, 2023 and does not apply to relations related to procurement, notices of which are posted in the unified information system in the field of procurement, invitations to participate in which were sent before the date of entry into force of the Decree, including contracts , information about which is included in the register of contracts concluded by customers before the day the resolution comes into force.

For the first time, SamSMU installed a shoulder joint prosthesis of its own production for a patient

At Samara State Medical University (SamSMU), the first prosthesis of its own design was installed for a patient with cancer pathology. The operation was performed at the regional clinical oncology clinic.

Previously, imported modular prostheses were used for such operations. Now they are being replaced by individual endoprostheses with a similar operating principle, developed at the Research Institute of Bionics and Personalized Medicine of SamSMU.

GE Healthcare will develop an AI solution for ultrasound scanners for $44 million

The American major GE Healthcare received a grant of $44 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to develop a medical decision support system (MDS) based on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to evaluate the results of ultrasound examinations. It is assumed that the technology will be developed by Caption Health, which the major acquired in February 2023.
