In Khakassia, counterfeit PPE worth 22 million rubles was again discovered

During the inspection, employees of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Republic of Khakassia identified another batch of falsified PPE, which was delivered to the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital. According to investigators, the Moscow company Flavio supplied the medical institution with about 63 thousand counterfeit protective overalls worth 22 million rubles and 158 thousand respirators. As a result, a criminal case was initiated under Part 1 of Art. 238.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (circulation of counterfeit medical products). At the end of November, a similar criminal case was opened regarding the supply of counterfeit PPE worth 22 million rubles to an infectious diseases hospital by Ulyanovsk-based RealService.

GE HealthCare launches new artificial intelligence suite to detect breast cancer earlier

GE HealthCare unveiled a new artificial intelligence suite this week at RSNA 2023, the annual radiology and medical imaging conference in Chicago. The new product, called MyBreastAI, aims to simplify radiologists' workflows and help them identify breast cancer in patients faster.

The main goal of the new breast imaging product is to make the work of radiologists easier, Jan Makela, general manager of GE HealthCare's imaging business, said in an interview. Mammogram images contain "an enormous amount of data," and radiologists sometimes have to read more than 100 of them a day, he noted.

The medical bracelet of a St. Petersburg surgeon is recognized as the best startup of the year

On November 29, 2023, the in-person semi-finals and finals of the fifth All-Russian festival of university technology projects HSE FEST, organized by the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg with the support of PJSC Rostelecom, took place.

The winner of the 2023 HSE FEST was the Newman project - an innovative bracelet that helps prevent bleeding from the radial artery after heart surgery. The jury members appreciated the simplicity of the technology, the sophistication of the business model and the market potential of the project, as well as the personal involvement of the device’s creator, a practicing cardiac surgeon, in the project. Another important factor for the jury was the human-centricity of the development and focus on an import-substituting solution. The cash prize was 250 thousand rubles.

American CMOs were sued over the use of AI when processing invoices from clinics

Health insurance companies in the United States are facing class action and individual lawsuits for using artificial intelligence solutions to process incoming bills and reject those that are not eligible for reimbursement. The plaintiffs argued that such refusals without an examination are not justified, especially since the accuracy of the algorithm is only 90%.
